Fruit Of The Spirit Affirmations— Joy
In the coming weeks, we’ll be taking a look at each of the fruits of the Holy Spirit and how affirming them cultivates intentional mindfulness within us.

In Philippians 4:8, Paul gives us instructions on what we should think or meditate about.
“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” Philippians 4:8— NLT
According to Wikipedia, In common language usage, “fruit” usually means the seed-associated fleshy structures (or produce) of plants that typically are sweet or sour and edible. The fruits of the Spirit are fine points that should naturally grow out of the proceedings of the Holy Spirit in our life.
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Galatians 5:22-23— NLT
Fruits of the Spirit affirmations are based upon Scripture to inspire us to cultivate the fruits of the Spirit in our daily lives. The word “Spirit” in these affirmations will be capitalized because these are fruits given to us by the Holy Spirit, not ourselves.
The fruits of the Spirit are:
- Love
- Joy
- Peace
- Longsuffering
- Kindness
- Goodness
- Faithfulness
- Gentleness
- Self-control
Each affirmation consists of scriptures, positive affirmations, and questions to motivate you to go deeper in meditation and study time.
Say the affirmations and scriptures out loud as you work through the study.

Joy
Biblical joy comes from our knowledge and understanding of the purpose of life and the hope of living with God for eternity (Psalm 16:11). Joy is a sign that life has found its purpose (John 6:44). Joy comes from God, not from the world. Pure joy is very clear and represents an example of the kind of “jump for joy” or “shout for all to hear joy” that we’ve found life’s purpose of living with God for eternity.
Pastor Jack Wellman of Patheos tells us there’s a difference between joy and Happiness. “The Bible never promises happiness to the believer.” He goes on to say, “Happiness is temporarily based on happenings. While joy is from the Lord and can be experienced during trials, suffering, and tests. So, joy is permanent, and Happiness is fleeting.”
Selfless Joy
I choose a joy that can be multiplied. Following my own intentions and seeking out material possessions may offer Happiness, but not lasting joy. Seeking God’s kingdom offers a special joy that can satisfy my soul.
These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full.
John 15:11— NASB
Spirit-Led Joy
Positive thinking cannot bring lasting joy. Joy is the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit within us. His joy is an attribute of Christ followers.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness.
Galatians 5:22— NASB
Rewarding Joy
A happy heart freshens my sense of joy. Laughter lightens my load and energizes me.
A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
Proverbs 17:22— NIV
Intentional Joy
I choose joy, even during times of hardship. In every moment, I have peace knowing this test develops my ability to endure future hardships.
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”
James 1:2-3— NIV

Thank you Paula for this good study. Some days, it seems impossible to find things to be joyful. But I pray that I will find beautiful reasons in God to live joyfully. I try to find more and more beautiful reasons in God to live joyfully. I need to examine the Word who He is. That helped me. You too?
