Are You Carrying Too Many Rocks?
This post is part of the Five Minute Friday blog link-up. Where I join up with a community of writers and bloggers of all ages and stages who gather around a single word prompt to free-write, unscripted, unedited, for five minutes. This week’s word prompt is {HEAVY}
This was a tough one at first. Then I came to me—the heaviness of anxiety.
Go
In the past, I have been heavy with severe anxiety. I’ve always likened it as if I was carrying grocery bags of heavy rocks.
There was a heaviness inside of me too. I guess it was a heavy heart; my soul felt like popcorn or a blender inside me—kind of like popping, buzzing, or vibrating.
When hardship or my chronic illnesses were running rampant like squirrels., Those heavy grocery bags of rocks were cumbersome.
How long Lord, I lamented. I could hear his still, small voice whispering. Seek me.
Then, I began to seek him in my everyday mess and draw near him each day.
Then something happened. I began to feel those heavy bags of rocks become lighter. As time went on, what turned out to be remaining in the bags were pebbles.
So I dumped them out. My soul began to feel lighter. I continue to draw near to God every day. Now when I feel myself filling those heavy grocery bags of rocks. I can immediately dump them out.
Stop
What about you? Do you need to dump your bag of rocks?

Love the way you lamented and rested in the truth of the presence of the Savior. I’m also a person with chronic illness, and it was a blessing to read your post today. So glad I found your work through FMF!

I really like your picture of anxiety as a big bag of rocks. And I’m encouraged by your progress giving them to the Lord! Maybe i can find such victory too!

Not only do I have burdens I carry that I shouldn’t, I keep giving them to Him and then taking them back. I’m learning, slowly, to stop that! It takes practice and continual intentionality!

It sure does take practice. It took me a long time to do so. Blessings.
